The story of Miriam and Meyer was inspired by my parents, Miriam and Meyer Messing. This novel is based on the stories they told me. Their love was real as were their struggles to survive. The pain they endured both physical and emotional was immeasurable.
The book is fiction because little is known about Miriam and Meyer’s parents and siblings. This was my opportunity to bring their stories to life, and depict what they may have experienced as the Nazis tightened their grip on Polish society and systematically tried to exterminate the Jewish people.
Miriam and Meyer survived and lived full lives in America raising me and my sister to be thankful for the wonderful opportunties afforded us as American citizens and to never forget the atrocities that occurred. This book is a thank you to them for all their love and inspiration and for a great life.
